Being the only string group in the world to be officially sponsored by Swarovski Crystal and having bespoke instruments worth £1 million, each with 50,000 hand applied crystals, FUSE were in possession of some of the world’s most expensive violins. That was until they surpassed this sparkly feat. As one of the most glamorous duos around at the moment, they have done this the only way possible. Gold.
FUSE have collaborated with Theo Fennell, a British Jewellery Designer, to produce two beautiful electric violins worth £1.35 million each. Each one is adorned with rubies, sapphires and diamond encrusted skulls which give a nod to FUSE’s rock and roll style. They are made from a bespoke blend of carbon and Kevlar allowing to off-set the weight of the 24-carat gold plating, making them light enough to play.
These elegant golden wonders are not just for staring at, no, certainly not. They are being taken on tour to America and Asia, having been unveiled after their nine month creation at Theo Fennell’s store in Chelsea. “Ben and I fly all over the world to play live, rock violin and in every destination we put on a spectacular show. The thrill of playing with these new gold violins is something I can’t describe,” says Linzi Stoppard, one half of the FUSE duo, with the other half, Ben Lee adding “The art and science involved to make each violin has blown us away. Entirely new and original components had to be designed for the instruments, plus new electronics have had to be engineered to counteract the conductive 24-carat gold. They are exceptional pieces that we will treasure.”
This duo is notable for leaving the traditional string quartet behind, whilst carving their own direction in style. This bold move has been reflected in their accomplishments such as being the first string act to feature with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with a James Bond themed musical collaboration at Henley and also being a five times world recording holding electric string group.
Their album Step up Beethoven is now available and will be followed by a US tour of Ivy League Colleges this year.
